Workshop D1: Wikipedia 101
Instructor: Mary Mark Ockerbloom
Time: 11:00am — 12:45pm
Description: The Chemical Heritage Foundation’s Wikipedian in Residence, Mary Mark Ockerbloom, will demystify Wikipedia culture and talk about how Wikipedia works and why contributing knowledge there is relevant to cultural institutions.
Bring a laptop, not a tablet! Mary will also walk through creating an account, searching, editing pages, and creating new pages. If you have a computer, you will be able to create a username and password, make your first edit, and practice editing in your sandbox. Whether you have hopes of becoming a respected Wikipedian or simply want to understand how to use the service more effectively, this is a critical primer.
Note: Workshop D2 is a continuation of this workshop, but it is not necessary to attend both sessions — each can stand alone.
Technical Requirements: Laptop (not a tablet) for hands-on Wikipedia editing.
